Searching & Filtering
The Friendly Media Dashboard includes a simple but powerful search tool to help editors and developers quickly locate specific media items by filename, URL, or folder path.
Using the Search Bar
The search bar appears at the top of the dashboard. It performs a case-insensitive match across several key fields:
- Media name
- Auto-generated URL
- Custom URL
- File path
Type any part of a filename or URL to instantly narrow down results. For example:
banner - All media items with “banner” in the name or URL.
.png - All PNG images.
/products/ - Media stored in a folder path containing “products”.
Results update automatically as you type — there’s no need to press Enter.
Badge Filtering
Alongside the search bar, you can now filter the results by warning badge type. This makes it easy to focus on specific issues before a site launch or during routine maintenance.
Available badge filters include:
- Missing File - Show only items whose underlying file no longer exists.
- Duplicate URL - Show only items that share a Friendly URL with another file.
- Filename Changed - Show only items where the original file name has changed.
- Unused Media - Show only items not referenced anywhere in content.
Show Original URLs
Use the “Show Original URLs” toggle above the results table to display both the original Umbraco URLs (with hashed folders) and the Friendly Media URLs side-by-side.
This helps developers confirm that friendly URLs have been generated correctly and that redirects are working as expected.
Combined Usage
Search and badge filters can be combined — for example, you can:
- Search for
headerand show only Duplicate URL items. - Filter by Unused Media and then search for
.pngto review unreferenced PNGs.
Paging controls remain available below the results list:
- Previous / Next – move through pages.
- First / Last – quick navigation (hidden on mobile to save space).
